Instructions
-
In a saucepan, pour water and add all the whole spices. Make sure to use only whole spices; there should be no ground cinnamon or cardamom, or your mulled wine may turn cloudy with sediment. Place the saucepan on the stove, bring it to a boil, then simmer for 1 minute over medium heat. The water should not boil vigorously. Now remove it from the heat, cover with a lid, and let it steep for 10 minutes. During this time, the crushed spices will release all their aromas.
-
In a separate saucepan, place the sliced pieces of orange and lemon. Pour in the wine. Place it over medium heat, and stay close; the wine should not come to a boil, which is crucial to preserve the flavor. The maximum temperature for heating the wine is 70 degrees Celsius. If you don't have a thermometer, just keep an eye on it. As soon as the first bubbles appear, and vapor starts rising, remove it from the heat. Cover with a lid and let it steep for a few minutes.
-
Next, pour in the water with the spices.
-
Add honey at the very end, right into the glass, about 1 teaspoon per serving. Honey loses its beneficial properties when heated above 60 degrees Celsius. You can replace it with sugar, but using honey is tastier and healthier.
-
Now, strain the mulled wine, and you can enjoy its flavor.

This is the best mulled wine recipe – very delicious, spicy, with pleasant citrus notes
